Kagadi district grader impounded for doing private work
The deal involved using the grader for private purposes in exchange for 1 million shillings.
Kagadi: In Kagadi district, two suspects are currently in police custody due to allegations of illegally using a Kagadi district local government grader for private work without proper authorization from their supervisors.
The suspects, identified as Ambrose Tumwine, the grader operator, and Deo Bamanya, the turn boy, reportedly brokered a deal with Rugashali Power Station, a Chinese company based in Rugashali sub-county within Kagadi district.
The deal involved using the grader for private purposes in exchange for 1 million shillings.
The specific grader involved bears the registration number UG 1706W and belongs to Kagadi district’s local government works department, specifically number 3.
Although the suspects were initially released on police bond, State Minister of Works and Transport, Fred Byamukama, ordered their re-arrest.
Currently, the grader is impounded at Kagadi Central Police Station, where the suspects are undergoing further investigation.
Robert Mugabi, the Deputy Chief Administration Officer of Kagadi district, expressed strong disapproval of such actions by government workers and emphasized that the suspects would face appropriate charges.
Kagadi district LC5 Chairman Ndibwami B disclosed that the suspects took the grader to a private site without authorization from the district leadership.
However, there’s a twist in this situation. Lillian Ruteraho, the Kagadi Resident District Commissioner (RDC), dismissed the allegation that the suspects had been arrested. She urged government workers to be mindful of their boundaries when handling government property.
Despite these conflicting statements, our attempts to obtain a comment from the police have been unsuccessful at this time.
