Kitgum: The Ker Kwaro Acholi faction, led by Rwot Apire Richard Santos, insists that the election of the new Acholi Paramount Chief and his executives will proceed as planned on Friday, June 14, 2024, at Acaki Lodge in the Pandwong Division of Kitgum Municipality.
In an interview with this publication Thursday evening, Mr. Adongakulu Robert, the Interim PRO of the Ker Kwaro Acholi Apire faction, confirmed that the election of the new executive committee of Ker Kwaro Acholi has been cleared by the Police Headquarters in Naguru.
He added that they have also obtained clearance from the Ministry of Gender, Labour, and Social Development and shared a copy with the local police authorities in Kitgum.
Mr. Adongakulu mentioned that their advance team is in Kitgum Municipality, making all necessary arrangements as they prepare to welcome cultural chiefs tonight. Additionally, he noted that they will hold meetings this evening with different bodies in Kitgum ahead of the election this afternoon.
Earlier on Thursday, the Aswa East Regional Police Commander, ACP Anatoli Katungwesi, said that the meeting of the cultural chiefs at Acaki Lodge in Kitgum Municipality has been blocked following several engagements with the two concerned parties, extensive consultations with the District Security Committee members, and the organizers who submitted their notification letter on June 6, 2024.
‘’After several engagements with the two concerned parties and stakeholders and extensive consultations with the district security committee members, the organizers, headed by Rwot Apire Richard Santos, who had submitted a notification letter on June 6, 2024, are advised to broaden their consultations.’’
The police officer said they should seek further guidance from the Ministry of Gender, Labour, and Social Development, security agencies, and laws governing cultural and traditional institutions in Uganda.
He added that no security clearance or guarantee will be provided for the meeting to take place and also informs that the public is advised to avoid participating in this assembly, and the hotel management has been informed not to host the meeting.
