Jinja local artiste, two others arrested over vandalism

The suspects are set to spend Christmas at Kirinya Prisons.

Jinja: Yasin Kintu, a 28-year-old singer popularly known as Brother Ronnie for his hit song “Embuzi Yange” featuring Flower Girl, has been arrested alongside two other individuals in connection with vandalism and obstructing Umeme officials.

The trio has been detained at Jinja Central Police Station (CPS) on charges of malicious damage and hindering the performance of UMEME officials’ duties.

The arrests follow an operation by UMEME in areas such as Mafubira, which began on Sunday, aimed at identifying those responsible for vandalizing power lines. Reports suggest that several kiosks in Jinja have been found using unverified electricity sources.

During the operation, the suspects are alleged to have obstructed UMEME officials and destroyed property, including houses and gates. As a result, police were called in to intervene.

Kiira Region Police Spokesperson Mubi James confirmed the arrests and urged the public to remain calm in light of the crime.

He warned that individuals involved in illegal electricity usage will face arrest as part of the ongoing operation.

Mubi emphasized that illegal power connections are detrimental to the area’s development and hinder government revenue generation.
