God Aside! Priest joins race to replace Nandala in Budadiri West
Rev. Magombe is expected to first face off with Mr. Kabala, the current FDC Chairperson for Budadiri West constituency, in the party primaries.
Mbale: In a dramatic twist in Budadiri West politics, Reverend Jackson Magombe, Chairperson of the Clergy in North Mbale Diocese and Director of Operations in the Office of the MP for Budadiri West, has officially declared his bid to replace his long-time mentor, Hon. Nathan Nandala Mafabi, in Parliament.
Rev. Magombe made the announcement on Sunday evening during a meeting with selected FDC delegates in Mbale, confirming that he will contest for the Budadiri West parliamentary seat in the upcoming elections.
His declaration follows the recent decision by Hon. Nandala Mafabi who has served as the Budadiri West MP for 25 years to step aside from Parliament and instead contest for the FDC Presidential Flagbearer.
Magombe, a respected clergy member and political strategist, said he is best positioned to continue Nandala’s legacy of development and effective representation.
“I have worked closely with Hon. Nandala for years. He has mentored me and shaped me into a capable leader. I believe I am the right person to carry forward his vision for Budadiri West,” Rev. Magombe said.
He assured FDC members and constituents that, if elected, he would prioritize continuity of the programs and development initiatives started under Nandala’s tenure.
In addition to his clerical role, Rev. Magombe is a member of the Provincial Assembly Standing Committee, representing Uganda’s Eastern Region, a role he says has provided him with extensive experience and national exposure.
Rev. Magombe is expected to first face off with Mr. Kabala, the current FDC Chairperson for Budadiri West constituency, in the party primaries. The winner will then take on the NRM candidate in the general elections.
