Four arrested for killing a family member in Masindi
The case of murder was registered at Katanga Police Station.
Masindi: Police in Masindi district are holding four family members on allegations of killing their colleague over land.
The incident happened on Monday in Nyantonzi Village, Nyantonzi Sub County.
Buaza Yidri, the area LC1 chairperson, told this publication on Wednesday that the deceased, identified as Oketcha Yiyadon, 50, asked his father, Michael Oryema, for a piece of land to construct a house, but he denied it.
Yidri added that though Oryema refused to give him land, Oketcha got a piece of land and started constructing a house, and this prompted the family members to confiscate the poles.
‘’When they denied him land, Oketcha got his father’s goats and kept them with his neighbor; this prompted the family members to beat him, and they left him unconscious.’’
The area chairperson added that later, Oketcha succumbed to wounds since he wasn’t rushed to the hospital for treatment. ‘’After realizing that he had died, the family members burned their house in order to cover up the incident.’’
Sunday Eyotu, the LC3 Chairperson for Nyantonzi Sub County, advised family members to always seek other ways of solving their misunderstandings instead of taking the law into their own hands.
Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Regional Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident and said the case of murder was registered at Katanga Police Station.
Hakiza identified the suspects as Michael Oryema, 80 (the deceased’s father), Lekuru Naume, 54 (Oryema’s wife), Kabuli Isabella, and Aromborach Beatrice, 45 (Oryema’s daughters), who are currently detained at Katanga Police Station.
