Alur King cheats death in deadly Pakwach road accident

Pakwach Central Police responded promptly, detaining the driver and impounding the lorry involved.

Pakwach: His Royal Majesty Philip Olarker Rauni III, the Ubimu of Alur, narrowly escaped harm following a serious road traffic accident that occurred early morning in Alwi Trading Centre, Pakwach District.

According to a press release issued by the Kingdom’s Communication Officer, David Rupiny, the incident took place at approximately 2:00 AM on Thursday, September 25, as the royal convoy was en route to Atyak Winam for a ceremonial blessing of two vehicles recently provided by the Government of Uganda.

The accident occurred when the convoy slowed down to navigate a road hump. A speeding Fuso lorry, reportedly driven by a person later found to be under the influence of drugs, failed to stop in time and crashed into Ubimu Rauni III’s vehicle, then rammed into the lead car in the convoy.

“The accident occurred when Ubimu Rauni III and his royal entourage were en route to Atyak Winam for the royal ceremony of blessing (goyu lau iwi) the two vehicles offered by the Government of Uganda. As the royal convoy slowed at a road hump, a driver of a Fuso lorry behind, who was speeding, lost control and rammed into Ubimu’s car and then the lead car,” Rupiny said.

The lorry driver reportedly attempted to flee the scene but was quickly apprehended by Jimmy Cwinya’ai, Director of Operations for the Kingdom, who was traveling in a trailing vehicle.

Fortunately, no injuries were sustained by Ubimu Rauni III or any members of his entourage.

“Ubimu Rauni III and his entourage did not sustain any injuries. Royal staff responded swiftly, implementing emergency protocols and evacuating the King to the Royal Palace in Atyak Winam, where he resumed his duties without disruption,” Rupiny confirmed.

Pakwach Central Police responded promptly, detaining the driver and impounding the lorry involved. A full investigation is now underway to determine the level of the driver’s intoxication and other circumstances surrounding the crash.

Efforts to obtain additional information from Pakwach Central Police Station were unsuccessful at the time of publication.

Further updates will be provided as more details become available regarding the ongoing investigation.
