Man arrested over Budongo SS computer theft

Masindi: Police in Masindi district have arrested Asuman Mugisa, a resident of Kanyege Village in Budongo Sub County, in connection with the theft of computers from Budongo Seed Secondary School.
Mugisa, in his late 20s, was apprehended on Sunday and detained at Masindi Central Police Station on a charge of threatening violence under case reference MSD CRD 725/24.
Julius Kyahurwa, the LC3 Chairman for Budongo Sub County, said residents tipped off authorities that Mugisa was among those suspected of stealing the school’s computers.
Acting on this information, police, led by Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Sanon Dhaala, searched Mugisa’s home and recovered various electrical items, including two screens, two monitors, and a computer that did not belong to the school.
Ramathan Tumwesige, the Kanyege Village defense chairperson, confirmed Mugisa has been repeatedly arrested on theft-related charges.
Sunday Eyotu, the LC3 Chairman for Nyantonzi Sub County, noted that the theft had disrupted ICT lessons at Budongo Seed Secondary School.
He commended the government for replacing the stolen computers but urged the public to cooperate with police by providing any information that could aid the investigation.
Deputy RDC Sanon Dhaala acknowledged that while the stolen computers have not yet been recovered, police investigations are ongoing.
He appealed to the community to work closely with security agencies to ensure the recovery of the remaining computers.
