Youth leaders condemn gruesome murder of 13-year-old
The community is in shock over the tragic loss, and authorities are continuing their efforts to bring justice to the victim and her grieving family.
Zombo: Youth leaders in Zombo District have expressed outrage and sorrow over the tragic murder of 13-year-old Jovian Yikparwoth in Nebbi Sub County, Nebbi District on Janaury 2, 2025.
Yikparwoth, a resident of Zombo Town Council and a pupil of Patek Paduk Primary School, was visiting relatives in Nebbi during the holiday season when the incident occurred.
According to police reports, the young girl and two friends were attacked by a group of three unidentified individuals around 6:00 AM as they were returning from a social gathering.
Amos Jacan, the Zombo District Youth Chairperson, condemned the shocking act, calling on parents to take full responsibility for the safety of their children, particularly during the holiday period.
Patricia Jane Alobo, the Queen of West Nile, joined the calls for action, urging both local leaders and security forces to intervene, and reminding parents of their duty to protect their children.
One suspect, identified as Roy Okurboth, has been arrested to assist in the ongoing investigation. The case has been officially registered under CRB 001/2025.
Bruno Mananu, the Assistant RDC of Zombo, described the murder as a deeply distressing event and emphasized that parents should refrain from sending their children away during the holidays for their safety.
West Nile Region Police Spokesperson, SP Collins Asea, confirmed the discovery of Jovian’s body in a nearby garden by her relatives and community members. Asea also noted that a canine unit helped lead investigators to Okurboth’s shop, where he was subsequently arrested.
