He credited the Parish Development Model (PDM) for helping him grow his business.
Teso: Journalists from the Teso and Karamoja sub-regions commenced a four-day farm journalist tour on Monday, December 16, 2024.
This initiative is part of the broader effort to support President Museveni’s mindset change program.
During his recent visit to Teso, the President pledged financial and livestock support, including 100 million Ugandan shillings and 28 sheep, to enhance the livelihoods of journalists in the region.
The tour includes radio reporters, print journalists, and television broadcasters from both regions. According to Mr. Samuel Odongo, the chairperson of Teso journalists, the group will visit successful farmers in Karamoja, including Amudat, Nakapiripirit, and Serere in Teso.
They will also travel to Ngora, Kibuku in Bukedi, Hoima, and the President’s farm. The State House is sponsoring the event.
The tour began with a visit to the farm of Amos Orembus, a 25-year-old farmer in Amudat and Nakapiripirit districts. Orembus shared his journey of starting with poultry farming and expanding his operation to include highbred goats and sheep.
He credited the Parish Development Model (PDM) for helping him grow his business. “I started with hens, and after receiving support from the PDM, I expanded. Now, I plan to sell my goats and sheep at the Bukedea market, using the reward I received from the President,” said Orembus.
Mr. Richard Rwamuhanga, a lead official from the State House, emphasized the government’s commitment to transforming people’s lives, starting with changing mindsets.
“We are here in Amudat to learn, and as journalists, you play a critical role in disseminating information to the public,” said Rwamuhanga.
The tour, which is expected to last four days, aims to foster a deeper understanding of successful farming practices among journalists and empower them to communicate agricultural success stories to a wider audience.
