Bugisu leaders commit to mass mobilization for Museveni’s tour

He highlighted key concerns that should be addressed during the tour, including road infrastructure, landslide resettlement, and other urgent regional issues.

Bugisu: Leaders from the Bugisu sub-region convened on Sunday evening to strategize on supporting President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s upcoming Parish Development Model (PDM) tour, writes Emmah M Bwayo.

The President is set to visit the region from December 17 to 20, 2024, as part of his nationwide assessment of the PDM program.

Hon. Nambozo Florence, the State Minister for Karamoja Affairs, urged fellow leaders to collaborate closely to ensure the success of the President’s visit.

She emphasized that Bugisu would be hosting the President for four days, a unique opportunity compared to other regions where the President’s visits lasted only three days.

Nambozo also stressed the need for a unified voice, advocating for the submission of a single, joint memorandum instead of the six separate memos initially proposed. She expressed gratitude to the President for his unwavering commitment to the people of Bugisu.

The meeting was attended by a broad array of local leaders, including LC5 chairpersons, Resident District Commissioners (RDCs), District Internal Security Officers (DISOs), Regional Internal Security Officers (RISOs), Resident City Commissioners (RCCs), and Chief Administrative Officers (CAOs) from across Bugisu. Together, they discussed critical mobilization plans for the visit.

Isaac Modoi, the Member of Parliament for Lutseshe County, reassured the leaders of the region’s readiness to receive the President. He highlighted key concerns that should be addressed during the tour, including road infrastructure, landslide resettlement, and other urgent regional issues.

The tentative program for the President’s visit includes touring PDM farmers in Bududa, Manafwa, and Sironko on Tuesday, meeting Bugisu leaders in Bulambuli on Wednesday, holding a rally in Mbale on Thursday, and concluding the visit with a youth symposium on Friday.
