Woman arrested for stealing baby from Pakwach Health Center IV

The police immediately launched an investigation.

Zombo: Police in Pakwach district have arrested a woman, identified as Teddy Gipatho, alias Patricia, for allegedly stealing a 3-day-old baby from Pakwach Health Center IV.

The incident occurred on December 8, when the suspect, posing as a heavily pregnant woman, entered the facility and sat next to a new mother who had undergone a C-section. The suspect then managed to steal the newborn.

The parents, Patricia Afoyorwoth and Jonathan Agenonga, from Apapariyo “12” village, Wadelai Sub-County, reported their child’s disappearance to the police when they noticed their baby was missing under suspicious circumstances. The police immediately launched an investigation.

West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson SP Collins Asea confirmed the incident, stating that the stolen baby was found alive in a garden in Pajobi North Cell, Puvungu West Ward, Pakwach Town Council, after the suspect confessed during questioning.

The baby was located around 7:00 a.m. and was safely returned to the mother following a medical check-up, confirming the child’s good health.

The police continue to investigate the incident, which has been registered under case number CRB/706/2024. Authorities have praised the community for their cooperation in helping locate the baby and have promised to ensure the case reaches its rightful conclusion.

Parents are urged to remain vigilant and monitor their children closely during the festive season, as opportunistic criminals may attempt abductions or other crimes.
