Parents urged to restrict girls from loitering during holidays
He further urged parents to exercise financial discipline during the festive season.
Bukedea: Muhammad Emuse, the Local Council One Chairperson of Adodoi Village in Bukedea Sub-county, has advised parents to restrict their daughters from wandering during the school holidays, citing safety concerns.
Speaking on November 29, 2024, during the graduation of 25 top-class pupils at Lenoir Parents Nursery and Primary School, Emuse stressed the importance of parental vigilance.
“Children are now out of school, and some parents allow their daughters to loiter in unsafe areas. This is a bad habit,” Emuse remarked. “Let’s ensure they return to school safe and sound after the holidays.”
Emuse also highlighted the potential risks posed by certain individuals in the community, specifically mentioning boda boda riders.
“Some wrong men are out there looking to exploit these young girls, leading to pregnancies or serious harm. We must protect our girls and be vigilant,” he warned.
Vincent Okwii, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Chairperson for Bukedea Sub-county and Guest of Honor at the event, emphasized the parents’ responsibility in safeguarding children.
“Teachers have done their part by educating and caring for these children at school. Now it is the parents’ turn to ensure they are safe at home,” Okwii stated.
He further urged parents to exercise financial discipline during the festive season.
“Spend wisely this Christmas and New Year, knowing that school fees are due next term. Let’s not use up all our resources during the celebrations,” he advised.
Simon Okiror, the Director of Lenoir Primary School, lauded the academic achievements of the pupils and announced rewards for the top performers.
“As a school, we are proud of the pupils’ success. To encourage them, the top 27 students will each receive five textbooks next term,” Okiror announced.
The event underscored the collective responsibility of parents, educators, and local leaders in ensuring the safety and well-being of children, particularly girls, during the holiday season.
