Masindi sub county chairpersons seek divine protection from road accidents

Kabihirwa, a retired educationist, died at the age of 65 years.

Masindi: Sub county chairpersons from Masindi district have appealed to Ugandans to pray for them so that God can protect them from the road accidents that are claiming their lives.

The appeal was made by Solomon Asiimwe, the chairperson Karujubu division, who is also the dean of LC3 chairpersons in Masindi district during the burial of John Kabihirwa, the Bikonzi sub county chairperson in Kitonozi village on Thursday.

Kabihirwa died after being knocked by a speeding vehicle on Tuesday.

Asiimwe told the mourners that Kabihirwa is the 29th sub county chairperson in the country to die of road accident in the current political term while riding the motorcycles that were given to them by the government.

He revealed that in Masindi district four chairpersons including himself have been involved in the accidents while riding these motorcycles.

Speaking during the same ceremony, Cosmas Byaruhanga, the Masindi district chairperson appealed to the government to think of increasing the salaries for Local council leaders that he said play very important roles in the country and yet they get meager pay.

The late Kabihirwa was the father of Gelazio Alinaitwe, an employee of BBS FM. Speaking on behalf of fellow siblings, Gelazio described their father as a loving parent who struggled to raise and make them what they are amidst challenges.

Ernest Kiiza, the former Minister of State for Bunyoro Affairs described the late Kabihirwa as a God- fearing and exemplary leader, challenging his children to emulate him.

Kabihirwa, a retired educationist, died at the age of 65 years. He has left behind a widow, children and grandchildren.
