Ugandans urged to stop politicizing wealth creation programs

He highlighted that President Museveni has never used wealth creation tours for political campaigns, and he urged local politicians to follow the same example.

Mbale: Ugandans have been urged to fully embrace government wealth creation initiatives to improve household incomes and to refrain from politicizing these programs, writes Emmah Bwayo.

The appeal was made by Hajji Kirunda Faruk, the Special Presidential Assistant in Charge of Media and Mobilization, during an interview with this website in Mbale City on Tuesday evening.

Kirunda stressed that politicizing wealth creation programs undermines their intended purpose. He highlighted that President Museveni has never used wealth creation tours for political campaigns, and he urged local politicians to follow the same example.

“The wealth creation funds, such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and EMYOOGA, are not campaign funds. They are intended to empower communities,” Kirunda explained.

He further advised Resident District Commissioners (RDCs) to utilize government-sponsored airtime on local radio stations to educate the public on how to responsibly use these funds.

Kirunda also called on elected leaders to support the ongoing presidential wealth creation tours, prioritize the implementation of these initiatives, and ensure transparency by preventing extortion and corruption.

He encouraged Ugandans to vote for competent leaders who truly understand their responsibilities and work for the people’s best interests.

Asumin Nasike, the Resident City Commissioner (RCC) for Mbale, reiterated the government’s commitment to tackling corruption within wealth creation programs. She emphasized President Museveni’s directive to deny bail to individuals implicated in corruption cases.

Nasike also noted that the absorption rate for funds in the Bugisu region has improved and encouraged beneficiaries to make full use of the resources to boost household incomes.
