Namisindwa locals protest delayed PDM fund release
She explained that the march was a last resort to seek clarity and action on the delayed payments.
Namisindwa: Over 40 Parish Development Model (PDM) beneficiaries from Burumba SACCO in Bukhaweka town council, Namisindwa District, staged a protest on Monday afternoon, marching approximately 6 kilometers to the Resident District Commissioner’s (RDC) office.
The group demanded answers over a year-long delay in receiving Phase III funds.
Anthony Managali, a beneficiary, stated that they submitted all required documentation during registration but are yet to receive the promised funds.
Kitongo Murafu highlighted that the delay has hindered their plans to start income-generating projects like poultry farming and zero grazing, leaving them in poverty.
Doreen Kakai explained that the march was a last resort to seek clarity and action on the delayed payments.
Andrew Wabweni, the Namisindwa District PDM focal person, attributed the delay to a financial inclusion system error. This government system wires funds to SACCO accounts once the necessary names are submitted by district officials.
Names of Butiru PDM SACCO beneficiaries were erroneously included on the list for Bukhabusi SACCO, creating technical issues.
Similarly, Burumba SACCO beneficiaries from Bukhaweka town council faced similar challenges.
Wabweni assured beneficiaries that the district had written to the Kampala IT office to resolve the errors and urged them to remain patient as efforts are underway to rectify the issue.
The district leadership is coordinating with relevant authorities to ensure the affected individuals receive their funds as soon as possible. This issue highlights the need for improved systems and oversight to avoid such setbacks in the future.
