He reiterated that by supporting such initiatives, Uganda can unlock its full potential, empowering citizens to create a brighter future for all.

Buliisa: A total of 125 women from Ngwedo Sub-county in Buliisa District have completed a two-month training in tailoring, catering, and bakery skills, organized by Total Energies Uganda under the Gender Management Program within the Tilenga Project area.

During the graduation ceremony at Ngwedo Trading Center, Ms. Daphine Natukunda, Social Package Manager at Total Energies Uganda, emphasized the program’s objective to economically empower women and promote gender equality.

The graduates, organized into five groups Bright Angels Women Group, Mungu Timo Women’s Group, Avogera Parish Women, Happiness Women Group, and Mungu Jakisa Group were each equipped with 10 sewing machines and 5 catering kits.

In addition to vocational training, the women received financial literacy education to enhance their resource management skills, ensuring they can effectively use their talents and resources to generate income.

The training, conducted in collaboration with Net Worth Consults, aimed to foster self-reliance among women. Edwin Muzahurwa, Executive Director of Net Worth Consults, urged the women to utilize their acquired skills and seize opportunities provided by government programs.

He also encouraged companies to engage these women groups by awarding them contracts to further strengthen their economic foothold.

Gladys Uyengboth, one of the program beneficiaries, shared how the training has positively impacted her community. She noted that empowering women economically has reduced gender-based violence and improved household incomes. Gladys called for more such initiatives to extend the benefits to other groups in the area.

Kennedy Oringi, LC III Chairman of Ngwedo Sub-county, highlighted the importance of gender mainstreaming, stressing the critical role women play in shaping society as the first teachers at home.

He encouraged women to remain united in groups, enabling them to access government resources more easily and amplify their collective strength.

The Ngwedo Women Economic Empowerment Program serves as a pilot initiative under Total Energies Uganda’s Gender Management Program, aimed at fostering inclusivity and equal opportunities. By equipping women with start-up kits and skills, the program is expected to contribute significantly to local economic growth and community development.

Oringi reiterated that by supporting such initiatives, Uganda can unlock its full potential, empowering citizens to create a brighter future for all.
