Bukedea vulnerable farmers receive improved heifers

She explained that the beneficial farmers underwent the farming training before benefiting.

Bukedea: The office of the president under the umbrella of poverty alleviation program has delivered the first consignment of the improved heifers to the vulnerable farmers in Akwarikwar sub county in Bukedea district.

Twelve female heifers and one bull were delivered.

The first consignment was received and witnessed by the bukedea deputy resident district commissioner Herbert Kamayira, state house representative, district leadership and the sub county leadership.

Ms. Hellen Akello Ekumu, the poverty alleviation coordinator eastern region who represented the office of the president told this publication that the delivered thirteen heifers are the first consignment.

“This heifers are our first consignment to this sub county and it’s going to be used for piloting, the project aims at eradicating poverty under the program of poverty alleviation in the household levels”, said Ms. Akello.

Ms. Akello also added that the program is going to roll out to other sub counties if the first beneficiaries properly manage the first animals.

“The office of the president is committed to fight poverty in the household, let’s embrace this program to benefit us, the government is looking at model farming in order to change our lives”, added Akello.

Ms. Akello further explained that the beneficial farmers underwent the farming training before benefiting.

“We trained these farmers on how to manage these heifers and we believe they will take maximum care of these animals”, she said.

Jenifer Akware, widow who is one of the beneficiaries, said she has stayed for over 45 years without benefiting from tangible items from the ruling government.

“I lost hope in this government but today I am surprised my name is among the beneficiary of the heifer, long live president Museveni, long live speaker Annet Among Anita”, said Ms. Akware.

However, Mr. Herbert Kamayira the bukedea district deputy resident district commissioner tasked the project beneficiaries to own the project.

“You are lucky to be among the first beneficiary to be selected, many people have been left out, my advice to you please take maximum care and protection of these animals for betterment of your lives”, said Mr. Kamayira.
