Kibaale woman gang-raped, four arrested
During the operation, police recovered several stolen items.
Kibaale: Police in Kibaale district have arrested four suspects in connection with a case of robbery and rape. The arrests followed a targeted operation conducted in Karuguuza town, Kibaale town council on Tuesday.
The operation was spearheaded by Moses Kitamirike, the District Police Commander, Joseph Ayesiga, the Officer in Charge of Kibaale Police Station, and Saazi Joseph, the LC3 Chairperson of Kibaale town council.
The victims, Peter Bigirwa and his wife, Natukunda, reported that they were attacked on Saturday evening while heading home. The assailants beat them, stole money and a small radio, and sexually assaulted Natukunda in an unfinished building.
The arrested suspects are residents of Kibaali village, Kibaali parish, Bwamiramira sub-county. They are believed to be part of a group of over ten individuals responsible for terrorizing areas near Katerere roundabout, Nyango stream, Nyabunyana stream, and Karuguuza town.
During the operation, police recovered several stolen items, including: GPS machines, smartphones and small phones, Electricity testers, shoes, and nails. Others are old coins dating back to 1975, textbooks from St. Tereza Bujuni Primary School, clothes with bloodstains, iron bars, wires, a t-shirt belonging to a staff member of Kibaale Academy and mattresses
Moses Kitamirike, the Kibaale District Police Commander, confirmed the arrests and reassured the public that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects still at large.
‘’We have them in custody and we can not disclose their particulars since investigations are still ongoing.We urge residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity,’’ he stated.
The suspects are currently detained at Kibaale Police Station as investigations continue.
