Serere: In a surprising announcement on Monday, November 11, 2024, Deborah Akiteng, a seasoned medical practitioner, revealed her plans to contest for the Serere Parliamentary seat in the 2026 general elections.
Akiteng, who hails from Abuket village in Kyere Sub County, has set her sights on unseating the incumbent State Minister for Fisheries, Hellen Adoa, who has held the position for several years.
According to reliable sources, Akiteng has already begun engaging with local communities in Serere, seeking support for her bid in the upcoming polls. She is one of six women who have shown interest in running for the seat, signaling a potentially competitive race.
