The suspects also searched the house for more money but found none.

Kagadi: Police in Kagadi District are investigating a recent case of aggravated robbery involving Habib Mugisa, the Local Council 3 (LC3) chairman of Kyenzige Town Council, and his wife.

The incident occurred on November 2, 2024, at around 9:30 p.m. when Mugisa, a 40-year-old businessman, and his wife returned home after closing the wife’s supermarket in Kyenzige.

According to Julius Allan Hakiza, the spokesperson for the Albertine regional police, the couple was driving a vehicle with registration number UAK 710Y. As Mugisa exited the vehicle, they were ambushed by three men, suspected to be armed, who quickly tied them up.

The robbers seized UGX 810,000 and a button Itel phone from Mugisa’s pocket and UGX 300,000 along with another button Itel phone from his wife’s handbag. The suspects also searched the house for more money but found none.

This incident follows a series of robberies in the region. In February, police in Kakumiro District carried out an intelligence-led operation that led to the arrest of six suspects involved in a series of robberies across Igayaza and Kakumiro districts.

The suspects, identified as Moses Rutaba Bright (arrested in Rakai), Lusiaba (arrested in Mubende), Patrick (alias Patu), Nsengima (alias Senga), Andrew Mutale (alias Kakato Olaba), and another individual detained in Kyankwanzi, are alleged to have conducted robberies in various areas, using toy guns, sticks, and knives to threaten victims.

Albertine Regional Police Spokesperson Julius Allan Hakiza revealed that these suspects primarily targeted mobile money agents, shops, and hardware stores, striking locations in Kakumiro, Kyankwanzi, Mubende, and Kiboga districts.

The suspects were apprehended based on extensive police intelligence and are believed to be responsible for several attacks in the region.

One of the reported incidents occurred on January 17, 2024, when Obed Bangirana, a businessman in Igayaza Town Council, was robbed of UGX 500,000 at gunpoint.

As Bangirana returned home from his hardware shop, two armed men, one with a suspected gun and the other wielding a panga and sticks, confronted him in his garage and demanded money. Following the robbery, the suspects fled the scene after Bangirana raised an alarm.
