Hope renewed: Dr. Richard Wamimbi’s quest to empower child marriage survivors

Mbale: Dr. Richard Wamimbi’s work in Mbale, Eastern Uganda, is reshaping the lives of child marriage survivors, offering them a renewed sense of hope through his NGO, Child Protection and Health Innovation Africa (CPHIA).

Nestled in the scenic hills of Mbale, CPHIA has grown into a powerful support system for young individuals who were once forced into early marriages, often at the cost of their education and future potential. Dr. Wamimbi’s dedication has rallied a network of donors, well-wishers, and partners, all united in his mission to make a lasting impact.

In Dr. Wamimbi’s words, “Child marriage is a scourge that perpetuates poverty, illiteracy, and health risks.” His approach focuses on empowering survivors by equipping them with practical skills, education, and the opportunity for economic independence.

Through CPHIA, Dr. Wamimbi has established a safe space and a foundation for change for these resilient individuals, giving them the tools they need to rebuild their lives and shape a brighter future.

CPHIA’s innovative approach includes centers on,

  1. Skilling Center: Equipping beneficiaries with vocational training in tailoring, hairdressing, carpentry, and agriculture.
  1. Startup Capital: Providing seed funding to kick-start small businesses, enabling graduates who benefit from this NGO to earn a sustainable income.
  1. Mentorship: Pairing survivors with experienced entrepreneurs and mentors for guidance and support.
  1. Psychological Support: Offering counseling and therapy to address trauma and emotional scars. Through individual sponsorship and  partnerships with organizations CPHIA has:

– Reached over 100 child marriage survivors

– Trained over100 youth in vocational skills

– Provided startup capital to over 70 entrepreneurs of this NGO

– Established a network of over 50 community volunteers

-Testimonies from beneficiaries speak to the transformative impact in the following;

“CPHIA gave me a second chance,” said one child mother of 19, a former child bride. “Now, I’m a skilled tailor, earning a living and supporting my family.”

“Dr. Wamimbi’s team helped me overcome my past,” added a 21 beneficiary  now a successful farmer. “I’m proud to be self-sufficient and inspiring others.”

Dr. Wamimbi’s tireless efforts have earned recognition, including the the community where he come from as the best  Humanitarian.

As CPHIA continues to grow, Dr. Wamimbi remains committed to his vision: “Every child deserves a chance to thrive. We won’t rest until child marriage is eradicated, and our youth are empowered to reach their full potential.”
