Masindi hospital management directed to provide provisions for fixing mosquito nets in wards
This measure is expected to improve health outcomes for newborns and encourage more people to seek services at the hospital.
Masindi: The Masindi District Council has taken action to combat malaria transmission at Masindi Main Hospital by directing hospital management to install provisions for fixing mosquito nets in all wards, particularly in the maternity ward.
This decision follows concerns raised by councilors during a recent council meeting, highlighting that many newborns contract malaria shortly after birth due to a lack of mosquito net protection.
The council’s social services committee reported that the absence of nets and the lack of structures to fix them prevents many mothers from using the nets they bring with them, increasing the risk of malaria for both mothers and newborns.
In addition to the mosquito net issue, the committee also noted cases of alleged mistreatment of patients by hospital staff, which has discouraged some community members from seeking medical services at the facility.
Masindi District Council Speaker, Moses Kiirya, directed hospital management to allocate budgetary resources toward the necessary provisions to protect infants and mothers from malaria.
This measure is expected to improve health outcomes for newborns and encourage more people to seek services at the hospital.
