Bukedea parents urged to support teachers
He acknowledged the challenges faced by schools in his area.
Bukedea: William Wilberforce Tukei, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Bukedea, has called on parents to support teachers in local schools. His appeal came during the closure of the Bukedea district budget conference on October 25, 2024, held at the district council hall.
Tukei emphasized that while the government is working to improve the education system, teachers often lack the necessary support.
He pointed out that their salaries are insufficient to meet their needs, urging parents to contribute to their well-being. “A teacher cannot be free in class if they have a patient in the clinic or health facility. Let’s support them,” he stated.
During the conference, the discussion focused on prioritizing the education and health sectors. Tukei noted the urgent need to address the dilapidated school structures, particularly in Kamutur, Kangole, and Aminit subcounties.
Stephen Okurut, the Bukedea District Education Officer, announced that for the financial year 2025/26, the district has allocated 60 million shillings for the construction of learner shelters at Tajar Primary School.
This government-aided school has seen a decline in enrollment due to its poor condition. Okurut mentioned that despite previous reports to the ministry regarding Tajar’s state, there had been no response. “As a district, we have decided to allocate some funds to establish a learning shelter for learners,” he explained.
Jackson Ojekede, the Kamutur Sub County Chairperson, acknowledged the challenges faced by schools in his area, stating, “All the schools in my subcounty are in poor condition. I am happy that the education office has promised to construct shelters for learners.”
