Ex-Minister Kiiza declares his intention to contest for Masindi MP
Apparently, Kiiza is the first person to publicly declare his intention of contesting for the Masindi Municipality MP seat.
Masindi: The former Minister State for Bunyoro Affairs, Ernest Kiiza Apuuli, has finally let the cat out of the bag and declared his intention to contest as the Masindi Municipality Member of Parliament in the 2026 general elections on NRM ticket.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at the Country Inn Hotel Masindi, Kiiza said that he has been approached by several people, including the youth, elderly, opinion leaders, and kingdom officials, among others, asking him to contest for the Masindi Municipality Member of Parliament.
‘’I have been approached by several leaders, people, opinion leaders, elders, and the youth overwhelmingly and have demanded that I come back, so today I have made a decision to contest for the position of Member of Parliament in Masindi Municipality,‘’ he told the press.
Kiiza, who was the MP for Masindi Municipality from 2011 to 2021, disclosed that he has decided to bounce back so as to implement his stalled programs after losing the seat to the FDC’s incumbent, Joab Businge.
According to the politician, some of the stalled programs include access to safe and clean water in the municipality, improving household income through supporting groups financially, constructing modern worship places, donating coffee seedlings and hoes, and supporting sports through donating balls and jerseys both to boys and girls.
Kiiza also asserted that he would sponsor the five best Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) performers in the municipality for secondary education every year, and if they perform well, support them up to the Advanced (A) level, start skilling the youth through lobbying for bursaries in government institutions, and improve household income through supporting groups financially.
He assured the people of Masindi Municipality that if they voted back to parliament, he would ensure the above programs are implemented.
Kiiza also noted that he would promote peace and unity in the municipality and ensure Kigulya and Karujubu get seed schools, which he says he left in the pipeline but hasn’t achieved, among others.
Edward Ruhweeza, the chairperson of Kiiza’s campaign team, said they are committed to winning the municipal MP seat in 2026.
He therefore asked for unity and cooperation among the members of their campaign team so as to win the election.
Apparently, Kiiza is the first person to publicly declare his intention of contesting for the Masindi Municipality MP seat.
According to sources, so far, three other people are eyeing the same seat: the Minister State for Children and Youth Affairs, Balaam Barugahara; the Bunyoro FUFA delegate, Rogers Byamukama; and the incumbent MP, Joab Businge.
