Kikuube accident victims named; death toll rises to nine
The suspects were being transported to Kabegaramire village in Kabwoya sub-county in Kikuube district to reconstruct the crime scene.
Kikuube: The death toll from the Kikuube road accident has risen from seven to nine. The police vehicle was transporting 14 individuals.
The accident occurred on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at around 3 p.m. when the police pickup truck registration number UP 9799 lost control and veered off the road.
The incident happened along Kabaale-Kiziramfumbi Road at Kitegwa B Village in Kabaale Sub-county, Kikuube District.
According to Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Regional Police Spokesperson, the police officers were on duty transporting suspects for a home search following murder allegations.
The suspects were being transported to Kabegaramire village in Kabwoya sub-county in Kikuube district to reconstruct the crime scene.
Hakiza told journalists on July 19, 2024, that the death toll has risen to nine; seven died on the spot, one died at Hoima Regional Referral Hospital, and another died while being rushed to Mulago National Referral Hospital.
Police have named the victims of the accident as Charles Matubua Avinzo, the DCI Kikuube district; Richard Gen, the in-charge homicide desk; Christine Cheruto, the in-charge gender desk; Samule Ojambo, the CID personnel in the homicide desk; and SPC Apollo Turinoha and Raymond Nuwamanya, the driver.
The suspects who perished are Mubarak Lwamahe, Martin Munyuza, Peace Tukamusaba, and yet-to-be-identified less-than-a-year-old Tukamusaba.
The particulars of the survivors are Francis Bwango, the 2nd in charge of the homicide desk; PC Michael Omamu, the in-charge CT; PC Abel Nyirigiye, the CT personnel; and PC Johnson Tumusiime, who are getting treatment at Hoima Regional Referral Hospital.
