Thugs steal 16 computers from Budongo Seed Secondary School
Currently, Budongo Seed Secondary School has an enrollment of 467 learners.
Masindi: Unknown thugs have stolen 16 computers from Budongo Seed Secondary School in Nyantonzi Sub County, Masindi District.
The thugs reportedly raided the school in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.
Gordon Kigongo, the school head teacher, told this publication in an interview that the school management realized on Wednesday morning that the 16 computers were missing in the lab.
The thugs made- off with 16 out of 28 computers that were procured by the government.
‘’The computers have been stolen at a critical time when candidate classes are preparing to sit for their mock examinations,’’ he stressed.
Sunday Eyotu, the LC3 Chairperson for Nyantonzi Sub County, said they were planning to install a second camera on top of the one they have and employ another security guard purposely to man the ICT block, but unfortunately computers have been stolen.
‘’It’s unfortunate that they have stolen the school computers. We were planning to install and employ another security guard purposely to man the ICT block, but our plan has been cut short.’’
Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Regional Police Spokesperson, said that they have arrested five staff members, including two lab attendants, a security guard, and two teachers who gave out the keys to the security guard.
Hakiza said the charges of theft and negligence of duty have been preferred against them. The suspects are currently detained at Masindi Central Police Station.

The theft of computers from Budongo Seed Secondary School is not an isolated incident. In the Bunyoro sub-region, at least 64 computers have been stolen from three government seed secondary schools over the past two years.
The affected schools include Kigorobya Seed Secondary School in Hoima district, Nyairongo in Kikuube district, and Butiaba Seed Secondary School in Buliisa district.
In November 2022, thugs raided Kigorobya Seed Secondary School and stole 16 out of 29 newly installed computers. The suspects included school guards and a teacher, but the stolen computers have not been recovered.
Last month, unknown thugs raided Butiaba Seed Secondary School in Buliisa district and stole 21 computers from the computer lab. The theft occurred during heavy rainfall.
Two guards attached to the school were arrested, but the stolen computers remain unrecovered.
Recently, unidentified individuals broke into Nyairongo Seed Secondary School in Kikuube district and stole 27 computers from the computer room. The suspects a school guard and an assistant lab attendant was arrested.
Communities near these schools suspect collusion between some school authorities and the thieves, but the police are actively investigating, and the stolen computers have yet to be recovered.
