FINALLY! Buliisa road rehabilitated after angry residents chase away road gangs

Road infrastructure plays a crucial role in connecting communities and improving access to essential services.

Buliisa: Residents of Bukumi Village, Nyamasoga Parish, Biiso Sub County, Buliisa District, have a reason to smile after their road rehabilitation commenced.

Road infrastructure plays a crucial role in connecting communities and improving access to essential services.

The 2km road in Bukumi Village had been in a poor state, making it difficult for residents to travel and access services like health facilities and markets.

Last month, frustrated residents took matters into their own hands and protested, driving away the road gangs that were initially tasked with maintaining the road.

Fortunately, on July 5, 2024, the road maintenance officially began, bringing hope to the community.

Ireen Aliyenya expressed relief, emphasizing that they can now access essential services without difficulties.

Juma Jakisa highlighted the road’s previous poor condition, which was riddled with holes, making travel challenging.

The road rehabilitation has opened up opportunities for residents to access government services more easily.

Mary Kugonza urged district leaders to prioritize timely road rehabilitation to prevent such incidents in the future.

She emphasized that if the road had been rehabilitated earlier, the community wouldn’t have needed to chase away the road gangs.

Michael Anwang Kanithe, the LC1 Chairman for Bukumi Village, believes that the road’s improvement will boost development in the area.

Denis Oyewa, the Biiso Sub County LC3 Chairperson, acknowledged the delay due to a shortage of road machines but affirmed the importance of timely maintenance.
