Kibaale Muslim Leader Mourns Tooro King Oyo, Calls for Unity and Cleanliness
He said the death of the 34-year-old monarch was a significant loss to the Tooro Kingdom and the country at large.
Kagadi: The Kibaale Muslim District Khaadh Sheikh, Hajji Isingoma Mohammed, has extended condolences to the family of the late Tooro King, Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, describing his death as a great loss to the Tooro Kingdom and Uganda.
Speaking to this news portal at his office in Kagadi Town Council, Hajji Isingoma described the late King Oyo as a peaceful and hardworking leader who loved development and served his people with passion, wisdom and courage.
“King Oyo was a peaceful and hardworking leader who loved development and served his people with passion, wisdom and courage,” Hajji Isingoma said.
He said the death of the 34-year-old monarch was a significant loss to the Tooro Kingdom and the country at large.
Hajji Isingoma also praised King Oyo for maintaining a good relationship with the Muslim community, noting that Muslims were often given a leading role in prayers during functions at the Tooro Royal Palace.
He prayed to Almighty Allah to grant peace and comfort to the late King’s family and the entire Tooro Kingdom during the mourning period.
Meanwhile, Hajji Isingoma has called upon Muslims and other residents in Kibaale District to participate in the National Cleaning Day activities scheduled for Saturday.
He said cleanliness and good sanitation are strongly encouraged in Islam and urged residents to keep their homes and communities clean.
According to the Kibaale Muslim leader, proper hygiene can help prevent diseases associated with poor sanitation, including diarrhoea, dysentery and cholera.
In a related development, Tooro Kingdom has formally notified President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of the death of Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV, who died on Thursday, August 27, while receiving medical treatment in the United States.
In a condolence notification addressed to President Museveni, the kingdom described the President as a guardian, father and friend of the late King, highlighting their close relationship spanning more than three decades.
“The Kingdom of Tooro, with unspeakable sorrow, officially informs H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Head of the Nation of Uganda, Guardian of the King, your son, and your friend, that His Majesty the King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV has rested,” the message reads.
The message was signed by Tooro Kingdom Prime Minister Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki, who acknowledged Museveni’s longstanding involvement in the life of the late King, from his childhood through his reign.
Museveni was among senior figures entrusted with the care and protection of the young monarch after Oyo ascended the Tooro throne at the age of three.
King Oyo became Omukama on September 12, 1995, following the death of his father, Omukama Patrick David Matthew Kaboyo Olimi III.
Because of his young age, a council of guardians, or regents, was appointed to guide him and oversee the affairs of the kingdom until he reached maturity.
Museveni was named among the guardians alongside Queen Mother Best Kemigisa, Princess Elizabeth Bagaaya and Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II of Buganda.
Although the formal regency ended as King Oyo approached adulthood, Museveni maintained a close relationship with the monarch and the Tooro institution throughout his reign.
The President attended several significant events in the late King’s life and held meetings with him on matters concerning the kingdom and the wider Tooro region, including tourism, infrastructure, development and the return of kingdom properties.
King Oyo died on August 27, 2026, at about 10:00 p.m. while undergoing medical treatment in the United States. He was 34.
In a statement following his death, Prime Minister Rwomiire described the loss as “immeasurable” for the Royal Family, the people of Tooro and Uganda.
The kingdom has called upon the people of Tooro to remain united, calm and prayerful during the mourning period, using the traditional expressions, “Omukama Atulize. Enkuba Etutire.”
Tooro Kingdom has also assured its subjects that the institution of the Omukama will continue despite the death of the reigning monarch.
Born on April 16, 1992, King Oyo became one of the world’s youngest reigning monarchs when he inherited the Tooro throne at the age of three.
