Biiso Model Primary School Retains Buliisa District MDD Championship

Buliisa: Biiso Model Primary School has successfully defended its title as the overall winner of the 2026 Buliisa District Music, Dance and Drama (MDD) Competitions, emerging champions with 1,032 points.
The competitions, held on Friday at Mukitale Development Foundation Secondary School in Biiso Town Council, attracted three participating primary schools.
Defending champions Biiso Model outperformed Ndandamire Primary School, which finished second with 881 points, while Butiaba Primary School came third with 818 points.
For retaining the championship, Biiso Model Primary School received Shs3 million in cash and an additional Shs2 million to purchase costumes and music instruments. The second and third-placed schools received Shs1.5 million and Shs500,000, respectively.
The prizes were awarded by the Cross-Cultural Foundation of Uganda (CCFU) in partnership with TotalEnergies to recognize schools promoting Uganda’s cultural heritage through music, dance and drama.
District Sports Officer and Acting Inspector of Schools, Godfrey Muhumuza, praised the partners for investing in cultural education.
“We appreciate the Cross-Cultural Foundation of Uganda and TotalEnergies for supporting cultural education. This initiative encourages learners to appreciate and preserve their cultural heritage,” Muhumuza said.
The Program Manager of the Cross-Cultural Foundation of Uganda, Simon Musasizi, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to promoting cultural preservation through school competitions.
“We remain committed to supporting music, dance and drama in schools because they play an important role in preserving culture among young people,” Musasizi said.
Musasizi revealed that this year’s top prize was increased from Shs2 million to Shs3 million and announced that similar prizes will be awarded in neighboring Nwoya District.
“Each district will also receive Shs6 million to facilitate participation in regional competitions, alongside complete music instruments and costume kits,” he added.
Representing the Chief Administrative Officer, Hannington Mwikirize applauded the Cross-Cultural Foundation of Uganda for its continued partnership with Buliisa District.
“The programme is helping to nurture learners’ talents while promoting Uganda’s rich cultural heritage,” Mwikirize said.
This year’s competitions were held under the theme: “Safe Learning Environment for Social Transformation.”
