3 Adjumani head reachers, IT expert arrested over mismanagement of UNEB funds

According to police, investigations established sufficient grounds to charge the suspects with various counts of theft and related financial misconduct.

Adjumani: Police in the North West Nile Region have arrested three head teachers and an IT service provider over alleged financial misconduct involving the collection and management of examination funds in Adjumani District.

The arrests follow investigations into allegations that the suspects charged money from learners who were not under the Universal Primary Education (UPE) programme but failed to remit the funds to the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) account as required by law.

North West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson SP Collins Asea identified the suspects as Iraku Augustine, Head Teacher of Adjumani Girls Primary School, Dama Alexander, Head Teacher of Openzinging Primary School, Minzira Florence, Head Teacher of Fuda Primary School, and Draga Christopher, an IT service provider.

The cases are registered under CRB 563/2026 (Openzinging Primary School), CRB 566/2026 (Fuda Primary School), CRB 570/2026 (Adjumani Girls Primary School), and File Reference 157/2026.

“The allegations pertain to the charging of non-UPE pupils and failure to remit collected funds to the UNEB account as required by law,” SP Collins Asea said.

According to police, investigations established sufficient grounds to charge the suspects with various counts of theft and related financial misconduct.

“Following thorough investigations, the suspects have been charged with various counts of theft and related misconduct. They have been apprehended and taken for plea taking at Adjumani Magistrate’s Court for trial,” Asea added.

Police said the investigations are part of broader efforts to promote accountability and transparency in the management of public education funds.

“The police remain committed to ensuring accountability, transparency, and integrity in school administration and financial management,” SP Asea emphasized.

The suspects are expected to face trial before the Adjumani Magistrate’s Court as investigations continue.
