Mugisa challenges parents to reject child labour, early marriages

"I am also a product of rural education, and it is possible to excel academically regardless of where you begin your education," he noted.

Masindi: Julius Mugisa, the Director of Dove FC and Lady Dove FC, has urged parents in Masindi District to prioritize their children’s education and protect them from child labour and early marriages, saying education remains the surest path to a brighter future.

Speaking during a Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) general meeting at Nyakarongo Primary School, Mugisa called on parents to remain committed to keeping their children in school despite financial hardships.

“It is your responsibility to educate and keep your children in learning institutions for a bright future. If you’re struggling to educate your children, kindly endure so that they shouldn’t suffer in future,” Mugisa said.

Mugisa, who contested for the Buruli County parliamentary seat earlier this year, expressed concern over what he described as the growing tendency among some parents to neglect their children at a young age, warning that such actions jeopardize their future.

“Let us prioritize education for our children, avoid early marriages, child labour and work closely with teachers,” he said.

Drawing from his own experience, Mugisa encouraged learners and parents not to underestimate the value of rural education.

“I am also a product of rural education, and it is possible to excel academically regardless of where you begin your education,” he noted.

He also encouraged parents to build strong social networks that can provide support during difficult times. “You need to have friends who can help and support you during the time of need,” Mugisa advised.

The visit fulfilled one of Mugisa’s campaign pledges after identifying Nyakarongo Primary School as one of the institutions requiring affirmative support.

During the event, he donated mathematics sets, exercise books, pens, pencils and basins to pupils. He also rewarded the school’s best-performing learners, disciplined pupils, prefects and those who excelled in zonal and district primary sports competitions.

More than 180 parents and guardians attended the PTA meeting.
