Two suspected thieves lynched by angry mob in Arua City

Arua: Police in Ayivu East Division, Arua City, have launched investigations into the mob killing of two unidentified men suspected of theft.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at around 9:30 a.m. in Olivu A Cell, Oreku Ward, Ayivu East Division. Police were notified of the incident at approximately 10:10 a.m.

According to the West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson, SSP Josephine Angucia, an unidentified group stormed an uncompleted rental house belonging to Mercy Scovia, accusing the occupants of stealing a motorcycle.

The mob reportedly searched the premises before attacking the suspects, killing two of them on the spot. Another suspect, identified as Oguaru Loyce, together with an unidentified male, managed to escape.

“The bodies were found with a lot of injuries on their heads, lying in a pool of blood, surrounded by pieces of stones and bricks on the compound. One of the deceased had a cut of a knife at the back of his head,” said SSP Josephine Angucia.

Police visited and documented the scene before transporting the bodies to the Arua Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem examinations.

No arrests had been made by the time of filing this report, as the perpetrators fled the scene immediately after the attack. The case has been registered at Ayivu East Division Police Station under Station Diary Reference 14/08/07/2026, and investigations are ongoing.

Condemning the incident, SSP Josephine Angucia urged members of the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
