Ten Kagadi school directors arrested for operating unlicensed schools

He noted that the move is aimed at enforcing government education standards and improving the quality of education in the district.

Kagadi: At least ten directors and head teachers of primary schools have been arrested and detained at Kagadi Central Police Station for operating unlicensed schools in Kagadi District.

The operation, conducted on Tuesday, was led by Kagadi Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Jeremy Namanya in conjunction with officials from the District Education Department.

The crackdown follows a similar enforcement exercise carried out last week in Buyaga West Constituency, where more than ten directors of unlicensed schools were arrested and their schools closed.

Among the schools closed during Tuesday’s operation are Christ the King Nursery and Primary School, Bravo Primary School, St. Ambrose Primary School, Ebenezer Quality School, St. Peter and Paul Primary School, and Alpha Nursery and Primary School.

Speaking after the operation, Namanya said the exercise will continue until all illegally operating schools in the district are shut down.

He noted that the move is aimed at enforcing government education standards and improving the quality of education in the district.

“Last week we closed several schools and today we have closed ten schools. This exercise will continue and is intended to enforce government standards and improve the quality of education,” Namanya said.

He warned directors operating unlicensed schools that they risk arrest and prosecution, stressing that illegal schools undermine education standards in the district and the country at large.

Meanwhile, John Mugume, the Inspector of Schools for Greater Kiryanga and Kagadi District Sports Officer, said the deadline for school registration has already passed, making the continued operation of unlicensed schools unlawful.

“The deadline for school registration has already passed, making the operation of unlicensed schools illegal. The exercise will continue until all unlicensed schools are uprooted from the district,” Mugume said.

He cautioned that offenders will face prosecution and urged parents to verify the registration status of schools before enrolling their children.

Children from the affected schools were sent home, while parents were advised to transfer them to nearby government schools.
