Buliisa district council approves Shs26.6bln budget for FY2026/27
Lukumu called upon incoming leaders to continue implementing unfinished projects to ensure service delivery to residents.
Buliisa: Buliisa District Council has approved a budget estimate of Shs26.6 billion for the 2026/2027 financial year.
The motion to approve the budget was tabled by Vincent Mukonyezi, the District LC5 Vice Chairperson and Secretary for Finance who also serves as the male councilor for Biiso Sub-county.
The budget was passed during the final council sitting of the current political term presided over by Speaker Fred Baligambaki at the district headquarters recently.
The motion was seconded by Nicholas Aliganyira, the male district councilor representing Biiso Town Council.
According to Mukonyezi, the approved budget is approximately Shs3 billion higher than the current 2025/2026 financial year budget.
He explained that the education sector received the largest allocation amounting to over Shs8 billion, mainly attributed to increments in teachers’ salaries for both primary and secondary school teachers, as well as pension and gratuity arrears.
The health sector was allocated close to Shs8 billion, while Roads and Engineering received over Shs1.3 billion. The water sector was allocated more than Shs431 million, Natural Resources received over Shs199 million, and Community Based Services was allocated more than Shs1.2 billion among other departments.
Meanwhile, the outgoing LC5 Chairperson, Fred Lukumu, said the district leadership had registered several achievements during its term in office despite some projects remaining incomplete.
Lukumu called upon incoming leaders to continue implementing unfinished projects to ensure service delivery to residents.
Speaker Baligambaki praised Lukumu for what he described as dedicated service and mentorship to leaders in the district.
He further appealed to the National Resistance Movement government to reward Lukumu with a government appointment in recognition of his service to the people of Buliisa District.
