SAD! Man on run after killing wife in Buliisa

“It’s true, the suspect escaped and he is on the run after killing the wife,” Upenji confirmed.

Buliisa: A man is on the run in Buliisa District after he allegedly killed his wife during a domestic fight in Kahira Cell, Kigungu Ward, Biiso Town Council.

The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday at around 10pm. The deceased has been identified as Joyce Apiyo, believed to be in her 40s, while the suspect, only identified as Eritie, is said to be in his 30s.

According to Richard Ubemu, a close neighbor to the couple, he learned about the incident after returning from the landing site. Ubemu noted that the couple had a history of frequent domestic quarrels, adding that relatives, friends, and other well-wishers had previously attempted to intervene and reportedly advised the deceased against continuing with the marriage.

John Bazilo, another resident said they were alerted by a resident identified as Pacudaaga, who reportedly found Eritie at the trading center and suspected that the he might have killed his wife.

Claveri Upenji, the LC1 Chairperson of Kahira Village, confirmed the incident, saying the suspect fled immediately after the alleged murder. “It’s true, the suspect escaped and he is on the run after killing the wife,” Upenji confirmed.

By press time, police officers from Biiso Police Station and health officials had arrived at the scene to examine the circumstances surrounding the death.

Solomon Mugisa Akiiki, the Albertine North Region Community Liaison Officer and acting regional police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and said police had launched a manhunt for the suspect.

Mugisa revealed that the body of the deceased was taken to Buliisa Hospital for postmortem before being handed over to relatives for burial.

He urged couples to avoid domestic violence and instead seek guidance from community leaders whenever misunderstandings arise.

Mugisa also appealed to members of the public to cooperate with security agencies by sharing information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect. “In case anyone knows the whereabouts of Eritie, they should inform the police so that we apprehend and bring him to book,” Mugisa appealed.

Meanwhile, police in Hoima District are holding a man accused of killing his brother following a land dispute.

The suspect, identified as Elisa Katusiime, allegedly killed his 32-year-old brother, William Isingoma, during a fight over land in Kisagara Village, Buraru Sub-county.

Reports indicate that after the incident, Katusiime surrendered himself to the Buraru Sub-county LC3 Chairperson before being handed over to officers at Kitoba Police Station.

Mwanga Robert, the LC3 Chairperson of Buraru Sub-county, said the suspect claimed the killing was accidental, which prompted him to voluntarily hand himself over to authorities.

Mwanga called on residents and family members to remain calm as investigations continue and the law takes its course.

He condemned acts of violence and urged communities to seek peaceful and lawful means of resolving disputes rather than resorting to deadly confrontations.

Katusiime is currently detained at Kitoba Police Post pending prosecution on murder charges.
