Namisindwa: Leaders elected in the recent local government elections in Namisindwa District are expected to officially assume office on May 15, 2026, following government guidelines on the transition of local governments.

The government recently issued directives on the takeover and handover process, indicating that May 12 will mark the end of the current government after the swearing-in of the President.

Members of Parliament are expected to take oath between May 13 and 15 at Parliament, while local government leaders across the country are scheduled to be sworn in between May 13 and 29.

In Namisindwa, the district planning team has resolved to hold the swearing-in ceremony on Friday, May 15, at the district headquarters.

Bwayo Emma, the district chairperson-elect, said the tentative date awaits final confirmation from incoming Chief Administrative Officer Joseph Lomogin following the transfer of Leonard Kitavunja.

“A tentative date has been set pending final confirmation from the incoming Chief Administrative Officer, Joseph Lomogin, following the transfer of Leonard Kitavunja and as elected leaders we are ready for the event,” Bwayo said.

Bwayo described the occasion as historic and said members of the public will be invited to witness the ceremony. He added that preparations are ongoing at lower local government levels, including sub-counties, to ensure a smooth assumption of office by the newly elected leaders.

Isabirye Mathias, the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer, said another planning meeting has been scheduled for Friday evening to finalize arrangements for the event.
