Umukuka, religious leaders agree to jointly address Bugisu challenges

The leaders also committed themselves to confronting practices and challenges that undermine Bugisu’s development agenda, emphasizing unity, peace, and collective responsibility.

Mbale: Religious leaders from across the Bugisu region have commended the Umukuka of the Bamasaaba, His Highness Jude Mike Mudoma, for his close working relationship with the central government and urged him to advocate for equitable development in the region.

The leaders appealed to the Umukuka to engage government so that the Bagisu people can fully benefit from national development programs, just like other regions of the country.

According to the spokesperson of the Bugisu Cultural Institution, Mr. Steven Masiga, the Umukuka on Tuesday held a peace-building and planning meeting with religious leaders from Bugisu at Courts View Hotel in Mbale City.

Masiga said the meeting brought together religious leaders serving both within and outside the Bugisu sub-region. Notable attendees included the Mufti of Uganda, His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Shaban Mubajje; the Deputy Mufti for Eastern Uganda and Chairperson of the Inter-Religious Council for Eastern Uganda, Dr. Sheikh Ahamada Wandega; and the Bugisu District Khadhi, Sheikh Issa Masaba.

Also present were the Bishop of Mbale Diocese, Rt. Rev. Wilson Nanda; the Bishop of Mbale North Diocese, His Grace Gimadu; Rev. Titus Kutosi, Chairperson of the Inter-Religious Council of Bugisu; as well as deans and county sheikhs from Bududa, Namisindwa, Manafwa, and surrounding districts.

The meeting focused on charting a way forward for the Bugisu region by collectively addressing key challenges affecting peace, unity, and development.

Among the key resolutions was an agreement between the Bugisu Cultural Institution and religious leaders to hold quarterly coordination meetings aimed at strengthening collaboration and jointly resolving issues that hinder development in the region.
