Former procurement officer, speaker defeated in Masindi LCV chairperson race

Masindi: Former Masindi District procurement officer Godfrey Byarugaba and District Speaker Moses Kirya have been defeated in the race for Masindi District LCV Chairperson.

In a hotly contested election, Patrick Wobusobozi, running as an Independent, emerged victorious after securing 27,331 votes. He was followed by Godfrey Byarugaba of the NRM, who garnered 17,686 votes, while Moses Kirya obtained 990 votes. Tom Kiweesi came last with 936 votes.

The Masindi District Electoral Commission Returning Officer, Gastervus Kakaire, declared Wobusobozi the duly elected Masindi District LCV Chairperson. The declaration was made on Friday at 5:50 a.m.

Speaking shortly after his declaration, Wobusobozi called upon political leaders, technocrats, and all stakeholders to work together, noting that poor leadership in the past had negatively affected development in the district.

“I call upon all political leaders, technocrats, and all stakeholders to work together because poor leadership in the past negatively affected development in the district,” Wobusobozi said.

He said he intends to build a strong working relationship between politicians and technocrats, emphasizing that unity is essential for the district’s development. According to Wobusobozi, cooperation across all sectors will create a more conducive working environment.

Wobusobozi pledged to serve the people of Masindi and improve household incomes across the district.“I am pledging to serve the people of Masindi and improve household incomes across the district,” he added.

He further appealed to his former contenders to put aside political differences and join him in improving service delivery, noting that the campaigns and elections are now over.

Wobusobozi also revealed that his administration plans to identify and study the district’s natural resources with the aim of developing them to boost local revenue.
