Government commends Umukuka for uniting Bugisu region

The Bugisu Cultural Institution has continued to appeal to its people to shun violence during the upcoming general elections, which are scheduled to take place in four days.

Mbale: The Minister for the Luwero Triangle, Hon. Alice Kaboyo, has commended His Highness Umukuka III, Jude Mike Mudoma, for providing leadership that has fostered unity in the Bugisu sub-region through the Bugisu Cultural Institution.

The remarks were disclosed to this publication by the Spokesperson of the Bugisu Cultural Institution, Hon. Steven Masiga, who said the minister made the comments during a courtesy visit to His Highness Umukuka III and his administration while touring the Bugisu region.

According to Masiga, Umukuka III pledged to work closely with the government in promoting development and stability across Bugisu.

Hon. Kaboyo praised the Bugisu Cultural Institution for its strong collaboration with government, noting that she sees no justification for cultural or traditional institutions to be in conflict with the state. She further gave a historical account of how the revolution that later liberated Uganda was conceived in Bugisu in the early 1970s.

In his remarks, Umukuka III thanked the government for honoring its pledges and commitments to the people of Bugisu.

The Umukuka also reported that the cultural institution has recently engaged clan chairpersons on the importance of peaceful voting ahead of the forthcoming elections. He further revealed that a symposium attended by over 2,000 Bamasaaba was recently organized, with funding support from the government.

Steven Masiga, Spokesperson; Richard Wambede, Minister for Umukuka’s Affairs; Hon. Wamisutu, Special Envoy; and Vincent, Protocol Officer, among others.
