Fundraising drives for Mbale Public University suspended

Mbale: Steven Masiga, the spokesperson for the Bugisu Cultural Institution, has officially taken on the role of acting public relations officer for the proposed Mbale Public University.

His Highness Umukuka III, Jude Mike Mudoma, is working closely with the Ugandan government and the Ministry of Education to establish an official committee that will fast-track the promises made by the President during his recent visits to both Kampala and Mbale.

During these meetings, the President assured the Umukuka III that the establishment of Mbale Public University is being prioritized and handled expeditiously.

Suspension of fundraising drives

In a related development, the office of the acting spokesperson for the proposed Mbale Public University has announced the suspension of any ongoing or planned fundraising drives.

These fundraising efforts were deemed unauthorized and are now suspended. The Ugandan government has committed to funding the entire construction of the university.

Masiga, also the spokesperson for the Bugisu Cultural Institution, communicated that any fundraising drives aimed at supporting the university are illegal, as they do not comply with the Public Collections Act (Cap 293).

These efforts, he explained, were aimed at discrediting the government’s commitment to funding the project.

The acting spokesperson further advised that any monetary donations made toward these unauthorized fundraising campaigns should be refunded to the donors, as the proper legal and governmental processes have not been followed.

The government has reiterated its commitment to fully fund the construction of Mbale Public University in the shortest time possible. His Highness Umukuka III, Jude Mike Mudoma, will assemble a team to ensure that the university project progresses as promised.
