SAD! 50-year-old cobbler found dead in suspected suicide

She said efforts by neighbours to assist were unsuccessful because the room had been locked from inside.

Ntungamoi: Police in Ntungamo are investigating the circumstances under which a man in his late 50s, a cobbler by profession, was found dead in his rented room in what is suspected to be a case of suicide.

According to a statement recorded at Rubaare Police Station, the deceased was identified as Posiano Sunday, a resident of Rubaare II Cell in Kagango Ward. His wife, Ms. Gladys Ninsiima, 42, told police that she left home on the morning of Saturday, 15 November 2025, to buy fresh maize for her daily business, and later received a call from neighbours informing her of the incident.

Ms. Ninsiima said efforts by neighbours to assist were unsuccessful because the room had been locked from inside.

Some residents told police that the deceased had been struggling with emotional stress for some time and had previously shown signs of distress. They said community members had intervened on earlier occasions when he appeared to be in crisis.

Local leaders have expressed concern about the rising number of similar cases in the area. Mr. Kenneth Byaaki, the chairperson of Kyabukuju I, noted that this is the fourth suicide-related death reported in the community in recent years, citing incidents recorded in 2023 and 2024.

Police have urged the public to seek support when facing emotional, domestic, or financial difficulties, emphasizing the importance of counseling and community assistance.
