Bugisu Cultural Institution Satisfied with Nomination Exercise

Bududa: The Bugisu Cultural Institution has expressed satisfaction with the entire nomination exercise, from local government and presidential nominations to the parliamentary nominations currently underway.

Speaking to this publication, the institution’s spokesperson, Mr. Steven Masiga, said the process has been smooth and peaceful across the Bugisu subregion.

“As a cultural institution, we are very satisfied with the entire nomination exercise from local governments to presidential and parliamentary levels. We have been actively mobilizing our people to participate in the governance of their communities, and I am happy to report that the process has been well handled, with no major incidents reported or noticed,” said Masiga.

He added that cultural institutions are mandated to mobilize communities to participate in government programs, including electoral activities, which form a key part of governance.

“As Bugisu Cultural Institution, we have been at the forefront of encouraging our people to participate in the nomination exercises, which explains the massive turnout we’ve witnessed,” he added.

As political campaigns get underway, Masiga urged candidates to conduct themselves with respect and decorum, in line with Bamasaaba cultural values and norms.

“We appeal to all candidates to use friendly and respectful language during their campaigns. Any politician found using abusive or obscene language will not be entertained by the cultural institution,” Masiga warned.

He further emphasized that Bugisu is home to all, and politicians should market their manifestos decently, avoiding insults and divisions.

Meanwhile, Masiga, has appealed to all aspirants vying for various political offices to use decent and respectful language during their campaign activities.

Masiga said the cultural institution is committed to promoting peace and respect during the political season and will not tolerate the use of obscene, vulgar, or abusive language in the community.

“As a cultural institution, we are intolerant to wrongly packaged communication. We shall not tolerate the use of vulgar or abusive language in our community,” Masiga stated. “We are ready to work closely with the Electoral Commission and the Uganda Police Force to ensure that candidates conduct themselves with decorum during rallies and campaigns.”

Masiga also expressed satisfaction with the entire nomination exercise, which covered local government, parliamentary, and presidential aspirants across the region.

“As a cultural institution, we have constantly mobilized our people to participate in the governance of their communities. I am happy to report that the nomination exercise has been well handled, with no major incidents reported to us,” he said.

He emphasized that all cultural institutions have a mandate to mobilize their communities to participate in government programs, including elections, which are part of national development.

“As the Bugisu Cultural Institution, we have been at the forefront of encouraging our people to take part in the nomination process. This explains the massive turnout we’ve witnessed,” Masiga added.

As campaigns continue, he urged all candidates to uphold Bamasaaba values by using friendly and respectful language.

“This is our land, and anyone campaigning here must market their manifesto with decency. Obscene or disrespectful language will not be accepted by the cultural institution,” Masiga warned.
