Masindi residents, animals share water sources

Masindi: Residents of Kijunjubwa Town Council and Kijunjubwa Sub County in Buruli Constituency Masindi district are reportedly sharing water sources with animals.
In an exclusive interview with www.ugreports.com Monday morning, the Mayor of Kijunjubwa Town Council, Jassi Yahaya, said that residents are on the verge of contracting waterborne diseases due to the consumption of unsafe water.
‘’People are sharing water sources with animals; most of our boreholes have broken down, and we are on the verge of contracting diseases,’’ he decried.
Yahaya disclosed that though there are about 20 boreholes in Kijunjubwa Town Council and Kijunjubwa Sub County, they are not enough, and most of them are distant from people.
He is therefore appealing for government intervention since they are at risk of contracting diseases. ‘’We are appealing for government intervention; the fewer boreholes we have, the farther away people are, and some of them are not functioning,’’ Yahaya added.
The Masindi district LCV Chairperson, Cosmas Byaruhanga, confirmed the shortage of water in Kijunjubwa Town Council and Kijunjubwa Sub County, saying that in the recent financial year they allocated a number of boreholes to Kijunjubwa, but the area doesn’t have adequate water.

In response to the above issue, Byaruhanga said that they have partnered with the National Water and Sewerage Corporation, which will extend piped water to Kijunjubwa.
Byaruhanga added that they have plans to install a water pump in Miduma this financial year, and the National Water and Sewerage Corporation will set up a water tank that will supply Kimengo Sub County and Kijunjubwa.
‘’We are working to solve the challenge of the water shortage in Kijunjubwa; we have plans to install a water pump in Miduma this financial year, and the National Water and Sewerage Corporation will set up a water tank that will supply Kimengo Sub County and Kijunjubwa,’’ he assured.
The politician asked residents to either fetch water from the nearby boreholes or boil water in the meantime while waiting for the extension of piped water to their areas.
