Eng. Jonard Asiimwe rallies Bunyoro to support President Museveni in 2026 elections
“Let’s continue preaching the gospel of the NRM and the President in all events including birthdays, funerals, weddings, and introduction ceremonies,” he said.
Hoima: Eng. Jonard Asiimwe, the National Vice Chairperson for Western Uganda on the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC), has called on the people of Hoima and the greater Bunyoro region to throw their full support behind President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in the upcoming 2026 general elections.
Speaking during a media dinner and meeting with NRM leaders at Hoima Resorts Hotel on Sunday, Eng. Jonard praised President Museveni for the numerous developments the government has delivered in the region and across the country.
“Let us support President Museveni in the forthcoming elections because he has done a lot of things, has developed the country, and will continue to improve sectors like health and education,” Asiimwe urged.
To support the campaign efforts, Eng. Asiimwe pledged to donate 15,000 t-shirts in support of the President’s campaign, setting an ambitious target of securing over 98% of the vote for Museveni in the Bunyoro sub-region, an increase from the 52% secured in the 2021 elections.
Eng. Asiimwe also rallied party members to maintain unity and fully back NRM flagbearers, discouraging tendencies to support independents or opposition candidates.
“You cannot say you are independent yet you have sisters and brothers in the party. Let us support those with our party flags, we must vote for one colour,” he emphasized.
He stressed that overwhelming support for Museveni in the region would enable him to lobby for more government opportunities and appointments for Bunyoro.
“Let’s work together, unite, and support the President. United we stand, divided we fall. I assure you that I will work with you,” he promised.
Hoima West Division Mayor, Robert Ruhiigwa, echoed Asiimwe’s call, urging party flagbearers to lead mobilization efforts in their areas and integrate NRM messaging into everyday gatherings.
“Let’s continue preaching the gospel of the NRM and the President in all events including birthdays, funerals, weddings, and introduction ceremonies,” he said.
Ruhiigwa added that the party will utilize existing NRM structures in the region to guarantee a landslide victory for the President in Hoima City.
Jackson Amanya, a prominent opinion leader in Hoima, also voiced his support for the President’s re-election bid but stressed the importance of party unity. “We must remain united and rally behind President Museveni. We should be grateful for the peace we enjoy today. In the 1970s and 80s, we suffered greatly, we used to sleep in the bushes. Today, we sleep peacefully,” Amanya reflected.
However, Badru Mugabi, the Resident City Commissioner (RCC) of Hoima City, raised concern over the reluctance of some NRM flagbearers to actively campaign following their victory in the primaries.
“If you walk through the city, most streets have posters for opposition and independent candidates. Our NRM flagbearers have become reluctant after winning the primaries they haven’t even printed posters,” Mugabi lamented.
He also reaffirmed his loyalty to President Museveni, citing his appointment as RCC as a reason for his continued dedication to the NRM cause. “You may ask why I support the NRM and rally for Museveni, it’s because I was appointed by the President, who is also the NRM party chairperson.”
