PM Nabbanja challenges girl child to draw inspiration from NRM’s women empowerment efforts

“The presence of women in powerful offices today should assure and motivate you, the girl child, that it is possible especially with the NRM still in power,” Aled said.

Masindi: The Prime Minister of Uganda, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, has called upon the girl child to be inspired by the NRM government’s commitment to women empowerment and to work harder in their studies to achieve success in life.

This message was delivered on her behalf by Buruli County Member of Parliament, Hon. Aled Ronald Akugizibwe, who represented the Prime Minister as the chief guest at the Golden Jubilee celebrations of St. Theresa Girls’ Secondary School, Nyamigisa, held at the school premisses recently.

Hon. Aled emphasized that due to the affirmative action policies of the NRM government, many women including Nabbanja herself now occupy top positions in government. He encouraged students to take this as proof that women can rise to leadership roles if they are focused, dedicated, and educated.

“The presence of women in powerful offices today should assure and motivate you, the girl child, that it is possible especially with the NRM still in power,” Aled said.

He also clarified that due to legal restrictions during election periods, the Prime Minister could not make a direct financial contribution to the school. However, she extended her commitment and invited him to her office next week so she could officially make a pledge.

The Bishop of Hoima Catholic Diocese, Rt. Rev. Vincent Kirabo, who served as the chief celebrant of the event, commended the school for its significant role in transforming lives through quality education over the past 50 years. He praised its contribution to both the diocese and the nation.

The school’s headteacher, Sister Angella Baganiza, highlighted that while the school has achieved notable success in empowering the girl child, it still faces serious infrastructure challenges. She appealed to well-wishers and stakeholders to support the school’s UGX 2 billion fundraising campaign to complete the Golden Jubilee Memorial building, which is expected to improve the school’s learning environment.

The event attracted various dignitaries including religious leaders, alumni, and local politicians such as Dr. Florence Asiimwe, the Masindi District Woman MP; Joab Businge, MP for Masindi Municipality; and Rogers Byamukama, the NRM flag bearer for the same seat.

During the fundraising session, Rogers Byamukama auctioned and purchased several items in support of the new building. Meanwhile, MP Joab Businge promised to lobby government to increase funding for government-aided schools to help address pressing challenges.
