“The victim was stabbed in the neck and his body dumped in a cassava garden, about 30 meters from Bulima–Marongo road. He was found lying in a pool of blood,” said ACP Nachuha.
The matter was reported to police by Steven Kiirya, the Defence Secretary for Kayanja Cell. Okiba’s body was transported to Masindi Hospital for postmortem examination.
So far, no arrests have been made. However, ACP Nachuha appealed to the public for any information that could help identify the perpetrators and uncover the motive behind the killing.
“We strongly condemn such acts. No one has the right to take another person’s life,” she emphasized.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident in Kagadi District, a 40-year-old man has reportedly died after consuming excessive alcohol.
The deceased, identified as Rweigumya, a resident of Mambugu Cell in Kagadi Town Council, was found dead on Monday morning near a bar along Kabalega Road, behind the Kagadi Bus Park.
According to Samuel Murungi, a relative of the deceased, Rweigumya was a known alcohol addict. He suspects the death resulted from excessive alcohol consumption without food.
“He had been struggling with alcohol addiction for a long time. We suspect he drank too much without eating,” Murungi told our reporter.
At the time of reporting, police had not yet arrived at the scene. Relatives took the body to the deceased’s home in Mambugu for burial arrangements.
According to a 2024 World Health Organization (WHO) report, Uganda has one of the highest alcohol-related mortality rates in Africa, with 87 deaths per 100,000 people attributed to alcohol-related complications.
The report also notes that Ugandan drinkers consume an average of 28.5 liters of pure alcohol per year, significantly exceeding the continental average.
