Criminal Court Session Begins at Masindi High Court

The hearing for this case is scheduled for September 11, 2025.

Masindi: A criminal court session has officially commenced at Masindi High Court, expected to run for one month under the stewardship of Lady Justice Babirye Mary, the resident judge of the High Court in Masindi.

Speaking at a media briefing on Monday, Juliet Nakitende, the Assistant Registrar at Masindi High Court, revealed that a total of 86 cases are scheduled to be heard during this session.

According to Nakitende, murder cases top the list with 37, followed by aggravated defilement with 33, rape 8, trafficking in persons three case and aggravated homosexuality one case.

The court session officially began on September 1, 2025, with a procession meeting that brought together stakeholders including representatives from prisons, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), court assessors, police, and state attorneys.

Nakitende clarified that the session will handle cases that were committed to the High Court from 2018 to 2025, with additional hearings continuing from those initiated in June this year. She also mentioned that 65 cases are currently awaiting plea bargain agreements.

Among the high-profile cases, Nakitende highlighted the murder case of Dr. Abiriga Jino, the former Acting District Health Officer for Masindi. The hearing for this case is scheduled for September 11, 2025.
