Bamasaaba Cultural Institution welcomes appointment of Justice Jane Abodo as Principal Judge
“As a community, we salute her for this well-deserved elevation. Her appointment is not only a national milestone but also a regional inspiration,” he added.

Mbale: The Bamasaaba cultural leadership has warmly welcomed the appointment of Justice Jane Frances Abodo as the new Principal Judge of the High Court of Uganda, praising her experience, regional ties, and her understanding of the challenges facing their communities.
Speaking on behalf of the institution, Steven Masiga, the spokesperson of the Bamasaaba Cultural Institution, said the appointment of Justice Abodo is a blessing for the region.
“She is our neighbor and understands many of our problems,” said Masiga. “She is familiar with the disputes within our cultural institution, including the issues surrounding our daughters who were recently relieved of ministerial responsibilities. We intend to seek her guidance.”
Justice Abodo, who previously served as the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), hails from Karamoja and is known for referring to the Bamasaaba as her neighbors. According to Masiga, this close relationship is a source of pride for the community.
“As a community, we salute her for this well-deserved elevation. Her appointment is not only a national milestone but also a regional inspiration,” he added.
Masiga recalled a previous engagement with Justice Abodo during an Alternative Justice Systems (AJS) training held in Munyonyo, where she emphasized the critical role AJS plays in resolving community-level conflicts.
“She comes with deep expertise in both criminal law and alternative justice systems. Her advocacy for rolling out AJS across communities aligns perfectly with our cultural approach to conflict resolution particularly in cases involving land, family, and leadership disputes,” Masiga explained.
The Bamasaaba cultural institution believes that the judiciary’s growing emphasis on Alternative Justice Systems provides a promising platform to address longstanding community disputes without overburdening the formal court system.
Justice Abodo’s leadership is expected to enhance these efforts, offering culturally sensitive approaches to justice that resonate with grassroots communities.
