Self-styled Ankole King Ntare calls for family unity
“Family unity fosters love, cultural preservation, and mutual support,” said Hon. Kunihira. “It’s a legacy worth nurturing.”

Kyenjojo: The self-styled King of the Ankole Kingdom, Asiimwe Umar Ntare VI Rubambansi, has called for renewed efforts to strengthen family bonds, urging extended families to organize regular reunions to reconnect and preserve their shared heritage.
Speaking during a family get-together held in memory of his grandfather, the late Petero Baguma, in Rugombe Town Council, Kyenjojo District on Saturday, Asiimwe emphasized the role of family unity in preserving cultural identity.
“Coming together as a family helps us to know one another and where we come from. It is through such unity that we can preserve our identity and values,” Asiimwe said.
The memorial gathering brought together relatives from across the Ankole and Tooro Kingdoms, serving both as a tribute to the late Baguma and a celebration of kinship.
In his homily, Rev. Fr. Francis Musiime, the parish priest of Uganda Martyrs Catholic Parish, echoed Asiimwe’s sentiments, highlighting the value of family gatherings in strengthening social bonds.
“Let us not wait for sorrowful moments like funerals to meet,” he urged. “These reunions should be regular and intentional to build stronger families.”
Faith Filo Kunihira, the Woman Member of Parliament for Kyenjojo District, also applauded Asiimwe for taking the initiative to trace his roots and preserve family connections. She encouraged other families to follow suit.
“Family unity fosters love, cultural preservation, and mutual support,” said Hon. Kunihira. “It’s a legacy worth nurturing.”
The well-attended event served as a reminder of the power of unity, heritage, and the enduring influence of ancestral ties.
