How Museveni’s blue-eyed man, Eng. Ssewava secured victory for Kasolo over Kalangwa

Op-Ed: In a last minute intense negotiation mediated by the Chairman of NRM and Commander-In-Chief of the UPDF, H.E Gen Y.K Museveni, as chairperson of the NRM Party acknowledged the rich creative ideological content, relevance and aggressive mass and social media outreach by Eng. SSEWAVA J. MUKASA and his campaign team that he had followed closely.

It was indeed this 3rd powerful Factor (Ssewava factor) that caused the need for these mediations whereby Eng. Ssewava and his massive followers mostly from outside Buganda and within who were neither willing to choose Hon. Kalisa Kalangwa nor Hon. Haruna Kasolo, were guided by the Chairperson to Step down.

Eng. Ssewava Joseph Mukasa initially wondered and queried from His Excellency, why it is not Hon. Haruna Kasolo who should step down since team Ssewava was more likely to win,  had a younger vibrant and youthful as well as a newly inspired followership mobilized from the PLU, disgruntled NRM administrators, youth as well as Women and SIG groups from allover this Nation. Infact, all the candidates who had created a secret alliances with Ssewava for the final battle ultimately won. All of them.

In my thinking and guidance to the team before decision making, and as agreed by Eng. Ssewava and his brilliant Political Assistant Akol Rory Moses, I pointed out that NRM is an organization that has survived and thrived primarily through collective team effort and cohesion as well as having to accept painful CONCESSIONS and COMPROMISE, overtime.

As NRM, we successfully negotiated by compromise with Kenya Defence forces and Daniel Arap Moi in 1987,  Alice Lakwena,  Joseph Kony rebels and even absorbed many of their fighters into our systems, not because we were weaker than them but because we are aware that compromise ensures a more agreeable Longer term sustainable ideologically binding victory than merely shooting all Africans and former kidnapped children of Ugandans to death just because we had the and still have the Powers to do so. We negotiated with the DP, UPC leaders, the ADF even today the door is open, the balaalo of Northern Uganda etc and attained Common painful positions/decisions which ensure progressive development and common Good of all Ugandans while conceding what some would myopically term as a surrender.

We negotiated with former Opposition leaders such as Hon Tayebwa and Hon. Anita Among who now is one of the most beloved NRM leaders and took her great talents away safely from the disoriented FDC politics.

We compromised and surrended to Mama Mabira Anywarr and let her do whatever she wanted with Uganda’s environment, with Hon Betty Kamya, to demanders of Ebyaffe we gave all we could practically locate and legally give back, Akii Bua stadium landlords, Gen Moses Ali, Ali Bamuze,  the relocation of Bududa inhabitants from their homes etc etc and all these have been a great long-term success because we all Listened to the Guidance of Gen Museveni, and as you can see, the LONG term Victory with these has been phenomenal and sustainable.

To our now sad and disappointed followers of #Ssewavaism, you must try to understand that during these Negotiations, all your concepts that we had gathered and vowed to implement as CEC leaders were all considered by the Chairperson of NRM and the other parties. These shall be communicated vividly in a Press conference organized at Eng. Ssewava’s home in Kampala tomorrow 29th August 2025.

The price of the transfer of our complicated technologies as well as voter-base from one corner to another is central to the negotiation, but there are other important issues to be considered as well such as the TRUST by the parties of the Mediator, who is the Chairperson of the Party in this case. The same Chairperson is also the direct mentor and employer of most of the tacticians of Eng. Ssewava and himself  and have always had a cordial functional warm relationship overtime. It is thus Vital to WIN by Group Consensus rather than by Individual Effort.

In my article early morning yesterday, I had highlighted to the Chairman and party leaders the long-term negative cultural and  political ramifications of having Comrade Karangwa Win the BUGANDA CEC position  as this would enchant a national majority NRM base BUT would be an alienating, demobilization demoralizing factor in a Buganda region which is still vividly still plagued by a reactionary-guided and sensitive secterian local politics. It’s unfortunate but it’s indeed true that tribal and regional Demographics still play a vital part in the Decision making of most Ugandan voters, not ideology.

Though the Uganda massline is still semi-indoctrinated as Patriotism efforts to inculcate Politics NOT based on identity intensify under NSPC, the President’s office, UPDF and via the NRM party itself, we are still a long call away from success.

With Buganda (central region) being such a complexity where NRM candidates always lose elections, it was either Ssewava or Kasolo for a choice that would help enchant (kuweweza) and mobilize the local Opposition minds of Kampala, Not comrade Karangwa Kalisa, who is undoubtedly a skilled Politician and great honest leader, but his victory would have  been perceived by a disoriented disoriented gullible Buganda NUP-infested opposing youths, as a stranger to local content. His victory was not therefore likely to sway a deeply divided and secterian Buganda base towards Gen. Museveni and the NRM in 2026.

It’s thus, the above unfortunate state of a young but progressive Democracy of Uganda that shaped Eng. Ssewava’s Decision to Step Down BUT inorder to enable only Hon Kasolo’s victory, whose Votes are made up of a great Chunk that had been automatically fined-tuned to Vote only Ssewava.

This compromise from our team ensured a unified, generally binding and strategic long-term success/Victory of the NRM Vision to mobilize Central Uganda and the whole country for Gen Museveni to continue to lead growth and development therefore.

Eng. Ssewava and his agents, supporters, advisors and delegates would therefore like to Congratulate Hon Karuna Kasolo for the Victory for NRM CEC-Buganda, and we shall work together to ensure the final Victory of Gen Museveni in the Buganda region come 2026.

We are still confident that we had the Best-selling most practical and revolutionary manifesto as well as Political networks and the necessary power dynamics which impressed our chairperson, the NRM leadership, the High Command and thousands of NRM delegates and we would have confidently Won the Position for CEC- Central by a landslide if we had stayed in the race.

In the NRM history of a million challenges and successes,  it has been observed that it is usually prudent and beneficial to the Masses to Listen to the wise counsel and guidance of the Chairperson of NRM,  Gen Y.K Museveni in the long-term, than to secure a temporary ‘non-approved independent selfish Victory” of temporary dimensions. In the end, it must be noted that we indeed WON and attained 99% of all our Targets apart from reaching the Ballot to Win the Buganda CEC position.

1. We traversed the nation, interfacing with all the structures of NRM and attaining feedback for improvement
2. We managed to promote the Brand of Gen Museveni and NRM with our aggressive media and field exploration of Uganda as well as meetings with the grassroots, sensitization of the NRM leaders and admins and the wider Voter base in preparation for 2026.
3. We managed to Prove our unmatched capacity to abruptly, but efficiently without ANY resources to Mobilize the  Ugandan Youth and Younger NRM mobilizers to put up a formidable ideologically rich campaign that is sellable to all within just 20 days.
